We’re not dead yet!

Seriously, we’re trying to get up to speed with FD here, and it’s been a bit tough between college and everything, but I’m going to try and get a short entertainment/gaming review in this weekend, so look for that. Possibly Chandler will have something pertaining to pololitics as he usually does! So stay tuned!

Implemented a Recommendation

okay, here’s my comment. if you make it too difficult to get comments you won’t get comments. I was reading your blog frequently but I don’t like to get hacked and therefore hate to register anywhere.

They raise an excellent point so I’ve changed the comment policy around a bit. The only requirement for open posting of comments is that your first comment be approved by an administrator. After that first comment approval, all future comments will be added instantaneously. Happy commenting!

What’s going on with FD

Well, as one can see, Frivolous Details isn’t being updated very much, and we’re trying to work around that as best we can. As for the forums, those aren’t doing so hot either– we only have four members, and three of those are staff. We’ll be working on things in the background, so this post is more to say that we’re not dead… yet.

There is a possibility that we might be moving hosts again in a year, as DreamHost is relatively expensive. If you would like to help us offset those costs, it would be greatly appreciated– contact Mark or I for more information.

For now, I’m out, and hopefully I’ll have a gaming/leisure/entertainment review for you in the future.

President Bush says…

“The market is not functioning properly.”

Ya think, Mr. Bush?

Howard Stern is Still a Moron

According to Howard Stern, Democrats are Communists because they prefer competition to monopolies. This is directly in-line with the writings of Karl Marx in Das Kapital (from Volume III, Chapter 54: Radiology):

Monopolies, vertical and horizontal, are the perversion of a KKKapitalist society into the ultimate orgy of oligarchical Bourgeoisie control of the masses. Modern society cannot afford this affront to its decency; thus, monopolies must be prevented and free-standing KKKapitalist institutions such as XM Satellite Radio and SIRIUS Satellite Radio must prevail in their independent and—most importantly!—competing forms.

Competition is the centerpiece of a free and healthy market. Industries that merge to form a single monopoly have almost never been good for the country or the market.

Review of The Dark Knight

The Jokers famous line in the movie-- Why so serious?

The Joker's famous line in The Dark Knight-- "Why so serious?"

This past Sunday, I went to see one of the most anticipated films of the summer, if not of the year– The Dark Knight, sequel to the movie Batman Returns. Though I’m not the biggest Batman fan there is out there, I can basically agree with Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic in saying that this movie exceeded my expectations. Heath Ledger did a phenomenal job playing the Joker, and every scene he did made things interesting. Christian Bale’s portrayal of Batman as well was very well done, albeit not as attention-grabbing as that of Ledger. Aaron Eckhart (who played Harvey “Two-Face” Dent) also did a very good job.

The effects in the movie were amazing. The sounds, effects, and mechanism of surprise were very well placed. At times I couldn’t tell what was going to happen next and some things came out of the movie I would have never expected. The fight scenes were also relatively well done, though not as amazing as I would have liked them to be. That is one of the few flaws this movie had, another being that there wasn’t as much witty humor as I would have liked to see in this Batman film (as there was when I last saw Batman Returns). But that’s being nitpicky, I admit.

All in all, this movie was worth the price I paid to see it, and I would gladly see it again– though I wouldn’t mind seeing it in IMAX if it were to happen.

Final Score: 48/50

For reference, all movies I review will have a score out of 50, based on my own personal experience of the film in question. The views expressed are my own and may not reflect those of you, Mark Chandler, or the rest of the internet.

BREAKING NEWS…

John McCain camp refers to Obama as “the one”. McCaintards everywhere join in.

Supporting Gays = Close-Minded

Wonkette.com has been covering the ridiculousness of the American Family Association’s McDonald’s boycott over McDonald’s donation of $20,000 to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The Wonkette article lists comments from the BoycottMcDonald’s website. My favorite is definitely:

“I am 73, my wife is 70 - As much as we have enoyed the golden archers over the years, we will not continue to do so because of your close minded leadership.”

It’s definitely close-minded that anyone would support something like a gay and lesbian chamber of commerce. Duh!

STOP WHINING

Former senator Phil Gramm, a top policy adviser of Sen. John McCain’s, said the nation is in a “mental recession,” not an actual one, and suggested the United States has “become a nation of whiners.”

The interview, published in in the Washington Times, could compound the problems of the presumptive Republican nominee as he tries to show his concern for Americans struggling with six months of job losses, near-stagnant economic growth, and soaring energy and food costs. It comes after McCain appeared to call the system that has financed Social Security since its inception “a disgrace.”

“You’ve heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession,” Gramm said, noting that growth has held up at about 1 percent despite all the publicity over losing jobs to India, China, illegal immigration, housing and credit problems and record oil prices. “We may have a recession; we haven’t had one yet.”

“We have sort of become a nation of whiners,” Gramm said. “You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline” despite a major export boom that is the primary reason that growth continues in the economy.

Just stop whining! The export boom will carry us through and only pussies and whiners can stop our economy!

New webhost

Sorry for the downtime, if anyone noticed. Chandler and I were in the process of moving our hosting, and we’ve basically moved and are now at our new host!

We are now discussing putting up forums in the near future, so check back to see when those go up!
